Dominant plant in the meadow to 80cm tall. Flowers whorled. Corolla purple, hairy and ciliate. Leaves cordate.
Alpine meadow dominated by Phlomis, Bistorta, Pedicularis, Papaver. SE facing slope.

Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.21, V. L. Komarov. Sect. phlomoides. Leaves cordate, ovate and obscurely toothed, covered with articulate and stellate hairs. Flowers in several verticillasters, widely spaced. Bracts linear longer than the flowers. Calyx teeth mucronate, half as long as the calyx tube. Upper corolla lip not compressed, densely white ciliate. Lower corolla lip with equal lobes. Stigmas with 2 unequal lobes. Filaments with 2 erect appendages at base. Nutlets glabrous or slightly glandular at the top.
