Herb 15cm tall.
Alpine mountain ridge with Polygonum (Bistorta), Dracocephalum, Rhodiola, Erigeron, Androsace, Sibbaldia, Poaceae.

Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.3, V. L. Komarov. Sect. loxanisa. Plant with creeping underground rhizome. Culm to 10cm tall covered at base with remnants of blade-less sheaths. Leaves stiff, 3-6mm broad, shorter than the culm. Spikelets 3-6 aggregated in a dense lobed and capitate to spiciform inflorescence. Lower bract not sheathing. Terminal spikelet staminate other spikelets pistillate. Bracts scales ovate, brown, with membranous margin. Utricle ovoid, papillose, nerveless, brown with short abruptly contracted beak. Style mostly 3.
