Shrub to 1m tall, low growing with large spread. Shrub growing in large number along the river. Legumes to 2cm long, with woody valves. Calyx persistent with 5 sharp teeth. Flowers yellow withering reddish.
High altitude steppe with Stipa, Festuca and Artemisia.
Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.11, V. L. Komarov. Ser. frutescentes. Leaves with 3-5 lanceolate spiny leaflets. Petiole ending in a spine. Stipules fused to the petiole and ending in a spine. Leaflets glabrous. Flowers yellow to 16mm long. Wing with claw half to 2/3 as long as limb in with auricles at base half as long as the claw. Calyx tube gibbous at base, short and broad with triangular spiny lobes. Legumes glabrous. Synonym possibly C.turfanensis and other species belong to C. frutescens O. et B. Fedtsch.
