Dominant species. Flowers in globose to ellipsoid dense raceme. Flowers white with purple-pink exserted anthers.
Alpine meadow dominated by Phlomis, Pedicularis, Papaver. SE facing slope.

Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.5, V. L. Komarov and Flora of China online (www.eFloras.org). Subgenus Bistorta. Stem 5-6 nodose. Leaves with appressed crisp hairs abaxillay, margin with thicker nerves, rachis winged. Ocrea not ciliate. Bracts aristate and toothed, brown scarious. Perianth segments 5, white. Styles 3, long. Anthers purple. Nutlets brown unwinged.
