1m tall herb growing in clumps. Plants mostly fruiting. Leaves pinnate. Capitula large with yellow tubular florets. Phyllaries green entire and in several rows. .
Very dry South facing slope on conglomerate rocks with Eremurus, Cerasus, Celtis, Prangos, Convolvulus.
Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.28, V. L. Komarov. Centaurea subgenus Centaurea. Perennial tall erect plant with a strong taproot. Leaves pinnate or pinnatifid with leaflets deccurent on the rachis. Leaflets serrate with sharp white teeth. Terminal leaflet longer than lateral. Florets tubular with a long exserted tube. Style swollen in lower part and stigmas with sweeping hairs. Anthers with spurs at the base. Cypselas brown, shiny with smooth edges. Areole lateral. Pappus of several rows of scabrous hairs. Hairs of different lenght. Phyllaries in several rows rounded with narrow membranous margin.
