Gazetteer: 15km south of Kara-Buura Pass 
Coordinates: 42º03'58'' N, 71º35'44'' E  Alt: 2247m  after the bridge in the camp site along the river.


Leaves soft, long petiolate hairy abaxially, ovate and slightly lobed. Scape longer than the leaves to 1m tall. Flowers umbellate with pedicels of different length. Bracts simple but lobed at the apex. Flowers purple first pendant then erect in fruit. Corolla tube campanulate. Filaments fused onto the corolla. Anthers with acute connective
Damp meadow along the Chatkal river in the shade of tall Populus, Betula trees with Berberis, Carex, Cirsium, Mentha.

Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.18, V. L. Komarov. Filaments with dilated base , connate. Capsule opening with apical teeth. Style remains attached to one tooth. Seeds are pitted. Cortusa is regarded as a monotypic genus but it contains geographical races. This one should belong to the Turkestanica race.
