Coordinates: 42º03'58'' N, 71º35'44'' E  Alt: 2247m  after the bridge in the camp site along the river.


Sedge to 1m tall. Leaves 5mm broad with scabrous margins. Inflorescence slightly pendant with 3 female catkins to 2-3cm long and 2-3 male catkins at the top. Sometimes terminal catkin female at the bottom male above. Lowest bract almost as long as the inflorescence. Utricules light brown. Glumes membranous with eroded margins. Styles 2 or 3.
Damp meadow along the Chatkal river in the shade of tall Populus, Betula trees with Berberis, Carex, Cirsium, Mentha.

Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.3, V. L. Komarov. Sect. paludosae. Spikelets 3-4 the lower distant the terminal one staminate. Bract not sheathing or less than 5mm long. Pistillate scale ovate terminating in a thickened scabrous point. Utricule sub-corky ovoid with short bidentate and curved beak, brown more or less lustrous and with impressed distinct nerves. Said to grow on salt grassland in the Flora ?
