Region: Jalal-Abad Oblast  Chatkal Rayon
Gazetteer: 15km south of Kara-Buura Pass 
Coordinates: 42º03'58'' N, 71º35'44'' E  Alt: 2247m  after the bridge in the camp site along the river.

Plant forming large clumps to 1m tall with many unbranched stems. Stem fleshy hollowed, scaly at base with numerous spiralled narrow leaves above. Inflorescence terminal, cylindrical, narrow. Petals yellow to pale yellow becoming reddish. Follicles 5, reddish when mature.
Damp meadow along the Chatkal river in the shade of tall Populus, Betula trees with Berberis, Carex, Cirsium, Mentha.

Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.9, V. L. Komarov. Flowers 5-merous in compact corymbiform capitate inflorescence. Basal scale brown, 4.5-5cm long, broad and different from the narrow cauline leaves.
