Rhizomatous herb with scales at the base of the root. Leaves fleshy, glaucous, pinnately lobed. Leaf rachis channelled and with a sheathing base. Scape to 10cm tall. Flowers bright yellow. Sepals small with eroded margin. Lateral petals with brown-purple spots inside.
Alpine exposed rocky hill at the top of the pass E to NE facing. With Dracocephalum, Pyrethrum, Rhodiola.

Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.7, V. L. Komarov. Sect. Calocapnos. Rootstock fibrous at the base with blade-less scales. Leaves all radical. Flowers to 20mm long, spur 8mm long. Sepals short fimbriate, scarious and white. Stamen nectary spur half the length of the corolla spur. Petals entire, winged with a terminal mucro. Upper petal with wings on the side and crest on the top.
