Perennial with tuberous roots. Leaves basal and with 1-2 cauline ones. Leaves pinnate. Leaflets with recurved margin. Bracts leaf-like. Stem and bract with purple hairs. Flowers in short terminal spike to 2-3cm long. Corolla light purple with darker purple lines. Anthers purplish. Corolla bilabiate with tube curved at base.
Alpine mountain ridge with Polygonum (Bistorta), Dracocephalum, Rhodiola, Erigeron, Androsace, Sibbaldia, Poaceae.

Identification Notes: Verified with Flora of the USSR. Vol.22, V. L. Komarov and Flora of China online (www.eFloras.org). Ser. verticillatae. Roots fusiform, thickened. Leaves opposite below, verticillate 3-4 above. Stem with undistinct lines of hairs. Leaves pinnatisect the lobes lanceolate with few teeth. Inflorescence terminal covered with purple crispate hairs. Calyx campanulate also with crispate hairs. Corolla tube curved inside the calyx tube. Galea without beak. Stigmas slightly exserted. Filaments of 2 stamens villous the 2 others glabrous. Lip twice as long as the galea.
