Vesalea coriacea (Hemsl.) T.Kim & B.Sun ex Landrein

Location:San Luis Potosi, Cerro de San Miguelito, above Privadas de Pedregal. Canada de Lobos.
Coordinates: 22°05'01" N, 100°59'58" W Alt: 2342m

Shrub <1 m tall with arching long branches layering on the ground. In leaf, some plants deciduous. Galls at apex of stems. One individual in fruit.
Quercus woodland (encino), canopy 3-4 m tall, with Q. resinosa, Q. potosina, Q. eduardii, Dasylirion acrotrichum, Calibanus, Arctostaphylos pungens and Dodonaea. Geology: igneous rock. Localised on rocky S-facing slope near the pass, in no more than 12 patches.

Identification Notes: Verified with Villarreal Q, J.A. 2013 'Sistematica del Genero Abelia (Caprifoliaceae) en Mexico.' Acta Bot. Mexicana 102:99-128. Leaves coriaceous, entire. Achenes very few left and topped with 5 persistent sepals.
