Location:Queretaro, Lagunita de San Diego.
Coordinates: 21°24'53" N, 99°07'45" W Alt: 2129m

Erect herb 80 cm tall. Phyllaries dark purple. Flowers purple. Roots fleshy.
Pinus forest with Pinus gregii, Arbutus xalapensis, Cupressus lusitanica, Rhus aromatica, Litsea glaucescens, Quercus obtusata, Q. affinis, Cornus, Aphananthe. Growing in a clearing under Pinus with Tauschia.

Identification Notes: Verified with Jerzy Rzedowski 1995 'Flora del Bajio y de Regiones Adyacentes, Compositae tribu Vernonieae' Vol. 38. Tribe Vernonieae. Leaves alternate with papillate surfaces. Inflorescence corymbiform. Capitula discoid. Phyllaries in 3-4 rows, acute, purplish-brown in colour to 10mm long. Florets purple longer than the phyllaries. Cypselas glandular, pappus of an outer short row of fringed scales, and an inner rwo of long barbate purplish setae as long as the corolla.
