Astragalus mollisimus Torr. var. irolanus (M.E.Jones) Barneby

Location:Puebla, Mpio Tepeyahualco, Laguna de Alchichica.
Coordinates: 19°24'26" N, 97°23'54" W Alt: 2325m

Small shrub with procumbent stems 15 cm long. Leaves grey-green. Calyx and stems whitish-pink. Corolla purple, standard purple with darker veins and whitish blotch at base, wings purple and white with white at apex. Anthers dark orange. Pods inflated.
Salt lake marginal habitat, grazed by sheep and goats. Growing with Juncus and Poaceae in short grazed turf 8 m from lake edge.

Identification Notes: Verified with Barneby (1964), Atlas of North American Astragalus. Plant pubescent. Leaflets 6 mm long (in the description they are long 30-45 mm long). Section mollissimi, subsection mollissimi.
