Ageratina irrasa (B.L.Rob.) R.M.King & H.Rob.

Location:Veracruz, Mpio Perote.
Coordinates: 19°28'12" N, 97°15'16" W Alt: 2609m

Erect shrub 1.5 m tall. Flowers white tinged pink. Phyllaries purple tinged.
Edge of Pine forest. Open, grazed area with Poaceae and Opuntia.

Identification Notes: Verified with Calderon, G. & Rzedowski, J. 2001 'Flora fanerogamica del Valle de Mexico'. Tribe Eupatorieae. Leaves opposite, pubescent and with resinous glands. Capitula discoid with bisexual florets. Phyllaries in one whorl, shorter than the flowers. Stigmas long exserted, linear and with uniformely placed papillae. Anthers not caudate at base. Pappus as long as corolla, not plumose. Cypsela with 3 hairy ribs. Included in Eupatorium in the Flora but recent phylogentic studies suggest a splitting of Eupatorium ( Schilling, E. E., J. L. Panero, and P. B. Cox. 1999. Chloroplast DNA restriction site data support a narrowed interpretation of Eupatorium (Asteraceae). Pl. Syst. Evol. 219: 209–223).
