Coordinates: 18°43'22" N, 97°03'50" W Alt: 1835m

Straggly, spiny shrub 1.5m tall with spines 2 cm long on older wood. Flowers minute with yellow anthers.
Roadside, ruderal, disturbed habitat at forest edge. Orange clay soil with Sambucus, Hypericum and Thalictrum. Growing in shade in rocks with Calliandra.

Identification Notes: Verified with Nee, M. 1999 'Flora de Veracruz' Vol. 111. Dioecious, male plant. Leaves alternate, chartaceous, toothed. Venation on leaves very conspicuous. Flowers in axillary fascicules. Flowers small with petals lacking, androecium hypogynous, fused at base and with extrastaminal nectary glands. Stamens more than 8.
