Location:Veracruz, Mpio Calcahualco, Barranco de San Miguel, Tlacotiopa.
Coordinates: 19°06'28" N, 97°12'07" W Alt: 2642m

Arching shrub 2 m tall. Non-spiny. Flowers white with reflexed sepals. Sepals becoming red and enclosing unripe fruit, later opening as fruit ripens. Ripe fruits black, becoming soft and juicy, bland-tasting.
Stream gorge with Pinus and Quercus forest. NE facing side of the gorge. Open area with Viburnum, Sambucus, Solanum, Ferns and Alchemilla.

Identification Notes: Verified with Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Instituto de Biologia. 2009 'Flora mesoamericana. Volumen 4, parte 1 Cucurbitaceae a Polemoniaceae'. Leaves non compound. Druplets are falling as a unit and free of the receptacle.
