Castilleja falcata Eastw.

Location:Veracruz, Mpio Calcahualco, Barranco de San Miguel, Tlacotiopa.
Coordinates: 19°06'29" N, 97°12'07" W Alt: 2646m

Erect herb 30 cm tall. Stems and lower leaves purple-brown. Floral bracts and calyx bright orange-pink towards apex. Corolla partly enclosed inside calyx. Corolla tube white, upper lip green above, pink laterally, lower lip green. Stigma green. Pollen yellow.
Stream gorge with Pinus and Quercus forest. NE facing side of the gorge. Humid area near stream. Growing in moss on top of rock outcrop with Vesalea floribunda and Poaceae.

Identification Notes: Verified with A. Eastwood 1909 'Synopsis of the Mexican and Central American Species of Castilleja' Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences Vol. XLIV. No. 21 and Guy L Nesom 1992 'Castilleja section Euchroma in Mexico' Phytologia 73(5):384-388. Section Euchroma. Leaves sessile, lanceolate and cordate at base, slighted dissected in the upper part with linear lobes. Flowers in a dense terminal spike. Calyx to 22mm long, deeply emmarginate with obtuse lobes, green with red tip. Corolla only slightly longer than calyx, lower lobe reduced with three green lobes and two scale-like structure. Galea bearded. Stigmas exsterted globular. Anthers 2-3mm long. Possibly synonym of C. scorzonerifolia.
