Location:Veracruz, Mpio Calcahualco, Barranco de San Miguel, Tlacotiopa.
Coordinates: 19°06'31" N, 97°12'08" W Alt: 2657m

Rosette herb. Flowering stems ascending, purple. Corolla closed (furled), petals red with pale orange margins. Stamens pale yellow. Calyx reflexed, red at base, yellow at apex.
Stream gorge with Pinus and Quercus forest. NE facing side of the gorge. Shaded, mossy bank beside path with Fragaria and Vaccinium.

Identification Notes: Verified with Calderon, G. & Rzedowski, J. 2001 'Flora fanerogamica del Valle de Mexico'. Leaves in a basal rosette and also cauline. Ovary fusiform and with narrow wings. Hypanthium campanulate, pubescent. Petals yellow at anthesis later red, to 8mm long.
