Location:Jalisco, NNW of Bolaños.
Coordinates: 22°11'01" N, 103°53'12" W Alt: 2525m

Tree 6 m tall. Bark grey, cracking. Petioles pinkish. In fruit, fruits ripening from yellow to orange-red.
Open Quercus and Pinus forest with Pinus lumholtzii, Quercus radiata, Arctostaphylos pungens, Arbutus madrensis and Arbutus tessellata. Growing in open area.

Identification Notes: Verified with Luteyn, J. L. 1995 'Ericaceae Part II. The superior-ovaried genera' Flora Neotropica Monograph 66: 365-383. Stem, leaves and inflorescences covered with long stalked glandular hairs (>4mm long). Flowers urceolate in terminal panicles. Filaments dilated and hairy, anthers with apical spurs. Fruits red. mesocarp covered with fleshy papillae. Seeds several per locule.
