Location:Durango, Cienéga de los Caballos. La Michilia Biosphere Reserve.
Coordinates: 23°26'35" N, 104°15'52" W Alt: 2555m

Erect small shrub to 1.5m tall. Flowers purple-pink with broad mouth and narrow corolla tube. Flowers fragrant. Sepals reddish and persistent.
River gully under Pinus and Quercus forest just before the waterfall. With Pinus durangensis, Pinus arizonica, Quercus sideroxyla, Juniperus deppeana and Arbutus bicolor. Growing under Quercus sideroxlya at 2.5 m high.

Identification Notes: Verified with Villarreal Q, J.A. 2013 'Sistematica del Genero Abelia (Caprifoliaceae) en Mexico.' Acta Bot. Mexicana 102:99-128. Flowers mostly single. Corolla tube narrow abruptly expanding. Calyx lobes lanceolate and accrescent. Ovary with a long sterile apical neck.
