Notes: Verified with Warren, L wagner et al. 'Manual of the flowering Plants of Hawai'i' vol 1. Section Lilibiscus part of the H. rosa sinensis complex. Leaves serrate at apex only, glabrescent. Stems stellate pubescent. Flowers solitary with red narrow petals. Epicalyx subular, calyx to 25mm long. Staminal column antheriferous apically. Style branches spreading in a flat whorl. Similar to H. kokio and possibly a cultivated form of H. rosa sinensis though this taxon is accepted as wild occuring species in the Flora of Hawai'i.
