Hibiscus arnottianus A.Gray subsp. arnottianus

Notes: Verified with Warren, L wagner et al. 'Manual of the flowering Plants of Hawai'i' vol 1. Leaves green glossy, glabrous, veation reticulate. Petiole reddish swollen at base and apex. Flowers white to 10cm long. Tube twice as long as calyx. Corolla lobes obovate. Epicalyx 1/7 lenght of calyx and recurved. Calyx lobes short. Staminal column red with black glands, stamens on top half part of the column. Stigmas 5. Column apex 5 toothed. Submitted as H. kokio subsp. saintjohnianus. Possibly a mixed accession H. arnottianus does not occur in Kauai.

Field notes: Seed from plants cultivated at Lyon Arboretum Univ. of Hawaii, Honolulu, Jan. 25th 1985. Endemic to Kauai Island (see Pacific Science Vol. XV, Jan.1961).
