Notes: Verified with Elias, T.S. 1976 'A monograph of the genus Hamelia'. Memoirs of the New York Bot. Gard. 26:81-144. Section Hamelia. Leaves whorled by 3. Stipules small and deciduous. Leaves villous abaxially along veins. Corolla tubular, orange-red. Inflorescence is supposed to be secund but maybe this only happens at the fruiting stage. Corolla hairy, sepals ovate less than 1mm long. Ovary 5 locular.
Locality:  USA, Florida: From the grounds of Montgomery Foundation (Fairchild BG) Miami.
Field notes: Soil oolitic limestone.
