Notes: Verified with Flora of China online (www.eFloras.org). Inflorescence paniculate, corymbose flat topped. Bracts deciduous. Rachis stellate hairy (hairs with flat cells). Sterile flowers few to 2-3cm across. Fertile flowers many with deciduous free petals. Leaves entire, leathery. Interestingly similar to the Mexican species H. seemanii. Submitted as H. scandens (L.f) Ser.

Field notes: Evergreen climber to 4m. Climbing over rotting tree stump in degraded open woodland of Chamaecyparis formosensis, Carpinus frankanensis and Trochodendron aralioides.
