Notes:Verified with Flora sinica (translated and revised version for the Flora of China project) and Rehder 'Synopsis of the Genus Lonicera' Ann. Rep. Mis. Bot.Gdn.14.1903. Sect. Isika. subsect. Rhodanthae. Shrub. Leaves ovate, lanceolate. Leaf margin entire. Branches with white pith not becoming hollow. Winter buds with several scales and 4 angled. Flowers paired at apex of peduncle. Peduncle longer than the petiole. Corolla bilabiate, purple-red, strongly saccate at the base. Ovary not connate together or just at the very base.

Field notes:From a deciduous shrub to 3m, ovate leaf to 6 x 3cm, black berries, frequent in sun, in open Abies fabri forest with bamboo and Rubus.
