Notes: Verified with Ohwi, J. 'Flora of Japan' English translation. Erect shrub. Inflorescence corymbose paniculate with a pyramidal to flat topped shape. flowers white, petals not narrowed at base. Ovary inferior, stigmas 4. H. paniculata is meant to have a large pyramidal inflorescence but this is rather short and flat topped, this may depend on growing conditions.

Locality:  Japan, Hokkaido: Uruyu Experimental Forest, Horokanai Town, North of Shumarinai lake between Dorokawa river and Putokamaetsu river, Forest section 319.
Coordinates:  325m
Field notes: Plant to 1.5m with spread to 1.2m. Growing with Abies sachalinensis, Sorbus conmixta, Quercus mongolica var. grosseserrata and Kalopanax on top of roadside embankment.
