Notes: Verified with Flora of North America online (www.eFloras.org). Heliantheae. Leaves alternate, glabrous or sparsely hairy but gland dotted. Capitula radiate. Phyllaries in two distinct whorls. Outer whorl with up to 20 bracts, fused at base. Tubular florets more than 200, yellow with red papillae at the apex. Anthers fused only at base, not tailed or sagittate at base. Stigmas flat with apical papillae. Ray forets pistillate, yellow. Receptacle epaleate. Pappus of membranous scales. Submitted as Helenium hoopesii.

Field notes: Rosettes of grey-green strap-like foliage, flower stems up to three feet with unusually shaped yellow ray flowers with a orange central disk. June-Sept.
