Malvaceae
Hibiscus genevii Bojer ex Hook.

Verified by: Temperate sect. 25 March 2010
Notes: Verified with Flore des Mascareignes vol 51 Malavaceae. Hibiscus sect. Lilibiscus. Flowers pink with dark purple centre, large. Petals obovate. Leaves 3-fid to entire, glabrous, leathery. Leaf rachis with a gland at the base. Calyx deeply lobed, epicalyx half of its lenght. Type locality Mondrain very few plants left. This species is very similar to H. lilibiscus and H. rosa-sinensis and many hybrid exists between those taxa in cultivation. H. rosa sinensis is said not to produce fertile seeds but it is not excluded that H. genevii could be an escape of cultivation from H. rosa sinensis or a hybrid ?
